About the Course Chairs
Peter Senkpiel, KC is a leading trial and appellate barrister in BC with a broad commercial litigation, alternative dispute resolution, and advisory practice.
After law school, Peter clerked for Chief Justice Lance Finch at the BC Court of Appeal.
Peter is the editor of the Civil Appeal Handbook and sits on the Board of Directors for the Vancouver International Arbitration Center. From 2015-19, he was an adjunct professor at UBC Law teaching a course on the law of Restitution and Unjust Enrichment.
In 2022, at just 38 and after only 12 years of call, Peter was appointed King's Counsel by the Minister of Justice and Attorney General for BC. This honorary title recognizes exceptional professional merit, contribution, integrity and character. Peter is one of the very youngest King's Counsel appointees in BC's history.
Kayla Strong has a broad commercial litigation practice with a particular interest in the resolution of complex commercial disputes, appellate matters and arbitrations. She has appeared before the BC Supreme Court and Court of Appeal, and the Supreme Court of Canada.
After law school, Kayla clerked for Chief Justice Robert J. Bauman of the Court of Appeal for BC (2016-17).
Kayla has made contributions to CLE textbooks and courses, including the Annual Review of Law & Practice, Civil Trial Handbook, Introducing Evidence at Trial, and Foreclosure Practice 2022 and 2023. She has also acted as a Referral Counsel for the Access Pro Bono Court of Appeal program.
