Learning level: All levels

Conflict resolution professionals have frequently called upon parties to find the opportunity in conflict, to reframe change as an opportunity for growth. For that reason, the incredible global challenges emerging during 2020 have been met by many in the conflict resolution world as opportunities to critically examine assumptions underlying our processes, and potentially dismantle and rebuild systems to better serve individuals in conflict. Within a global zeitgeist of adaptation, the conflict resolution field has seen both remarkable innovations and unprecedented collegial sharing and support.

This one-day, 24-hour conference will bring together innovators from around the world to share their work and engage in active workshops and discussions around how the field is responding to COVID-19, increased calls for anti-oppression work within our systems, and the challenges of shifting our practices online in ways that improve our work wherever possible.

Participants will have the opportunity to learn about:

  • conflict resolution responses to the COVID-19 pandemic, including both new online programs and new best practices
  • applications of conflict resolution skills to anti-racism work, including the growing calls for (and development of) emergency response conflict resolution services as an alternative to policing
  • virtual applications of conflict resolution work, including tools such as avatars and role-playing games

The conference itself is designed to find the opportunities in the challenges of moving to an entirely online delivery format, including engagement with a much wider range of presenters than is possible in face-to-face conferences. The unique structure of this conference will allow participants to engage with presenters in real time or to view some panels (that might run live from another time zone) in recorded form in the days immediately after the conference.

This course is being offered in partnership with Mediate BC's unconference taking place on October 29, 2020. We will be offering Mediate BC Roster members a discount of 20% off the full fee. Contact Customer Service to receive the 20% discount.

This course will also be sold in sessions so attendees can either purchase the entire conference or opt to purchase only one of the three hour sessions being offered. The price for a stand alone three hour session is $150. Click here to register for the Youth Voices three hour session.

To purchase a different three hour session please contact Customer Service.

How does a 24-hour conference work?

As conflict resolution professionals know, challenge often offers opportunities. While our annual conference can't take place in the same ways it has in the past, the change allows us to reflect on the assumptions we make about how conferences run and to transform our thinking to provide new ideas and new ways to engage with those ideas!

How will this conference be different?

  • it's entirely virtualwe'll mostly meet on Zoom, but we'll also have sessions in other platforms using avatars
  • presenters will be engaging from all around the world!
  • the conference will run 24 hours to accommodate all time zones in hopes of enriching conversations through engagement of participants who might not otherwise be able to join

The day is broken into three-hour time blocks with hour-long rest breaks inbetween. All presentations are live and we encourage you to participate actively in as many sessions as you can! If you can't attend a sessionbecause there is more than one at a time or you simply need to sleepthe sessions will all be recorded. Attendees have access to watch all sessions for up to a week after the conference, so you can see everything.

And there is an Unconference stream where you can present your own ideas!

CLEBC is partnering with Mediate BC who will run an unconference on October 29th from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm (Vancouver time). Everyone who registers for the CLEBC conference before October 15th is eligible to submit a proposal to present in the unconference stream. Unconference attendees will vote on proposals to set the agenda for that stream. You'll receive a PROMO CODE for the unconference when you register for the CLEBC conference. Use that code to register here and submit your unconference proposal. On October 29th, all CLEBC conference attendees will have access to all presentations within the unconference.
