Who should attend: Corporate/commercial litigators, criminal defence counsel, in-house counsel, paralegals, and securities regulation and enforcement professionals

Learning level: All levels

Securities litigation has changed significantly since the last time CLEBC held a course in this area in 2019. In the time since, the new Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization was formed. Our Court of Appeal has issued many decisions in the area of freeze orders. And the industry has witnessed significant criminal and regulatory prosecutions for securities fraud.

This course is your comprehensive review of current law and practice in this multi-faceted niche, engaging civil, administrative, and criminal law in different forums and often engaging multi-jurisdictional interests.

As in previous years, the program will include senior counsel from regulators, including the BC Securities Commission, the new Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization, the Crown, and securities litigators from the defence and corporate litigation bar.

Experienced faculty will provide you with practice management and case-handling advice from all angles so that you can deal with proceedings in any securities litigation forum. In addition, you will receive procedural and substantive legal updates to ensure you stay current with the latest changes in securities law and policy.

Law Society of BC CPD Hours: 5.5 hours (this course will contain a minimum of 1 hour pertaining to professional responsibility and ethics, client care and relations, and/or practice management)
