Learning level: All levels

Indigenous real estate is in an exciting place, with First Nations and their business partners leading innovation in real estate transactions, development, land use models, and opportunities.

We will explore a broad spectrum of topics within the real estate space to provide context, technical knowledge, best and culturally aligned practices for real estate transactions, leasing, development, joint ventures, financing, and more.

Knowledge of the building blocks and mechanics of real estate on First Nations lands will enable you to assist industry, government, and Indigenous leaders and landholders to form effective business and governance structures, and build successful partnerships that can drive economic prosperity.

You will learn from the experts about:

  • real estate transactions on First Nations lands
  • development
  • leasing
  • Indigenous-owned development entities
  • joint ventures and partnership structuring
  • financing
  • industry-First Nations partnerships
  • various legal regimes on First Nations lands, including those subject to Land Codes, modern treaties, and self-government agreements

Law Society of BC CPD Hours: 6 hours (this course will contain a minimum of 1 hour pertaining to professional responsibility and ethics, client care and relations, and/or practice management)
