Who should attend: Employment lawyers, in-house counsel, and human resources professionals

Learning level: All levels

Employment law continues to develop rapidly and pose unique challenges. This conference will, once again, feature an agenda curated from the submissions and suggestions of leading employment lawyers, explore emerging and topical issues in employment law, and provide updates on notable recent developments. The conference continues to be the annual must-attend event for all practitioners in the area of employment law.

We are very fortunate to have two featured lunch speakers this year. On Day 1, Ellis Ross, MLA (Skeena) and former Chief Councillor of the Haisla Nation, will join us to discuss truth and reconciliation in the context of business leadership and employment practices. On Day 2, Professor Kenneth Thornicroft, will join us to talk about class actions and the hostile workplace in the BC Court of Appeal decision in Lewis v. WestJet Airlines.

At this conference, you will also:

  • learn about recent developments on core topics such as constructive dismissal, consideration, mitigation of damages, and reasonable notice
  • find out what is happening at the Employment Standards Branch
  • get your annual employment case law update
  • and more

Join us on Day 1, Day 2, or both days for a discussion of these important issues.

Conference attendees (both attending in person or online) are invited to join faculty at the conclusion of Day 1 of the conference (location to be determined). A special thank you to Cooperwilliams Truman LLP for hosting this reception.

Law Society of BC CPD Hours: 12 hours (this course will contain a minimum of 2 hours pertaining to professional responsibility and ethics, client care and relations, and/or practice management)
