Who should attend: Litigation counsel, both criminal and civil

Learning level: Fundamental/Intermediate

Although constructing closing submissions in civil litigation, criminal litigation, and tribunal proceedings begins with sitting in front of a computer and typing, the process itself requires a fusion of necessary skills that includes narration of relevant evidence, reviewing and critiquing expert evidence, underlining witness credibility, and interpreting and applying statutes and case law.

Regardless of whether you are presenting closing submissions orally or in written form, an effective advocate must lay a logical and ethical pathway that will lead the court to the decision being sought by your client.

Join CLEBC's team of judges and leading counsel for an intensive day of learning. This pragmatic and practice-focused program will help you elevate your effectiveness as trial counsel.

Law Society of BC CPD Hours: 5.5 hours (this course will contain a minimum of 1 hour pertaining to professional responsibility and ethics, client care and relations, and/or practice management)

Course Chairs
Anne Berrie — Dowting Law, Langley
Andrea Jones — Barrister & Solicitor, Richmond
