Who should attend: This program will be of interest to lawyers working in a range of practice areas including: municipal, real estate, construction, insurance, human rights, energy, securities, environmental, and resource law. The curriculum is designed to profile both private and public law perspectives, and explore how the climate law practice area is evolving in the courtroom, the boardroom, and beyond.

Learning level: All levels

Mounting evidence that we are in a climate emergency creates an all-hands-on-deck moment for the legal profession. The challenges of adapting to and mitigating climate change have come to define a new practice area: climate law.

This course brings together innovators and thought leaders from across the profession who are practicing at the cutting edge of Canadian climate law, and grappling with the complex intersections between climate law and more established practice areas. A special focus of this year's conference will be the intersection between climate law and Aboriginal/Indigenous law and legal orders.

Law Society of BC CPD Hours: 5.5 hours (this course will contain a minimum of 1 hour pertaining to professional responsibility and ethics, client care and relations, and/or practice management)

Course Chair
Professor Chris Tollefson UVic Faculty of Law, Principal, Tollefson Law Corporation, Victoria
