Who should attend: lawyers practicing in the area of Aboriginal law, in private practice, industry, and government; others who focus on Aboriginal law issues will also benefit, including Indigenous organizations, in–house counsel, and law students

Learning level: All levels

This year at the Aboriginal Law Conference we will examine the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (the "UNDRIP") implementation in BC.

A diverse group of presenters will focus on the legal and pragmatic implications of implementing the UNDRIP, and how current developments are affecting Indigenous peoples, First Nations governments, provincial and federal governments, and industry.

At this conference you will learn about:

  • how provincial imperatives, federal legislation, and First Nations are moving forward with reconciliation and the UNDRIP
  • how the UNDRIP is being implemented by First Nations with regard to governance and nation-rebuilding
  • how government-to-government agreements and interim benefits agreements can be crafted to achieve the ends of the UNDRIP
  • incorporating the articles of the UNDRIP as a tool for reconciliation and advocacy in the forest and mining sectors
  • international and cross-border issues and the UNDRIP
  • and a case law update on compensation and redress

Join us for this essential update.
