This Self-Paced eLearning course is beneficial for: Paralegals, legal support staff, and junior lawyers—anyone who has client contact, including initial contact, setting appointments, or conducting client interviews. The information will be of interest to almost all practice areas, but in particular those who provide legal services for personal matters such as wills and estates, family and conveyancing.

Initial client contact can reveal subtle information about clients. The presence of influence, control or abuse, could change how the file should be handled. Experienced paralegals Michele Ross and Stacie Gin will explain the kinds of problems they have encountered in the areas of family and wills and estates, and provide tips on how to deal with them.

In these situations, clients or their family members may have strong and sometimes inappropriate emotions and behaviours. Dr. Michael Elterman will join Michele and Stacie to explain underlying emotional issues that create difficult behaviour, and provide suggestions for managing the clients, and yourself.

Having a plan to identify and communicate about potential influence, abuse and control, and developing skills to deal with difficult people, could increase client satisfaction and reduce stress on staff.
