Who should attend: All lawyers and members of the legal profession

Learning level: All levels

This 60-minute course helps members of the legal community learn to cope with the unknowns in practice and in life, allowing them to comfortably navigate not having control of the outcomes.

As lawyers, we search high and low for answers to get it "right"; however, we know there is more than one possible right answer. We set ourselves up for the win, yet we know the judge, jury, our clients, or perhaps a more senior lawyer will be the decision-makers and decide the outcome. In life, there are also many things that are not within our control.

This presentation will give you tools and processes to live with uncertainty and strategies to self-manage with compassion.

In this course, we will explore:

  • what is within your power and control
  • how to challenge the need for certainty
  • letting go of outcomes and identifying boundaries of what is yours to carry
  • assessing whether you have been responsible to yourself, your clients, and others when evaluating decisions
  • coping strategies to reduce and manage anxiety and stress

Law Society of BC CPD Hours: 1 hour (this course will include a minimum of 1 hour pertaining to professional responsibility and ethics, client care and relations, and/or practice management)
