Who should attend: Lawyers, dispute resolution professionals who already know the fundamentals and want to feel more confident using them
Learning level: Intermediate/Advanced
This advanced program builds on the foundational skills taught in instructor Michael Lomax's Dealing with High Conflict Behaviours and Mediating High Conflict Disputes programs. The focus is on helping legal professionals become more comfortable, confident, and fluent using the core high conflict skills in challenging, real-world situations.
You will work through complex client interactions drawn from family, civil, workplace, and estates practice. Using realistic scenarios and structured practice, you will deepen your ability to de-escalate emotional intensity, deliver unwelcome information clearly, correct misinformation without arguing, manage expectations, and maintain professional self-management under pressure.
This full-day virtual course is capped at 24 participants to ensure a high-touch learning experience with meaningful practice time.
Prerequisite: This course is designed for professionals who have already completed Dealing with High Conflict Behaviours (or the earlier Dealing with High Conflict Personalities) and is also suitable for those who have taken Mediating High Conflict Disputes.
Mediate BC Roster mediators will receive 20% off the full regular course registration fee. Please contact Customer Service to register.
Law Society of BC CPD Hours: 6.5 hours (this course will contain a minimum of 1 hour pertaining to professional responsibility and ethics, client care and relations, and/or practice management). This course counts for 6.5 ADR CPD hours.
