Who should attend: All lawyers—both barristers and solicitors at all levels of experience
Learning level: All levels
Ethical practice is more than knowing the rules—it is learning how to make sound, professional decisions when client demands, business pressures, deadlines, technology, and human stress collide.
In this lively and interactive course, you will work through realistic scenarios and discussion drawn from litigation, solicitor practice, and everyday firm life, including client intake, retainers, conflicts, confidentiality, advocacy, transactions, undertakings, trust money, AI, and mistakes before they become crises.
Experienced faculty will connect the Code of Professional Conduct for BC, Law Society guidance, and key case law to the practical judgment lawyers need in real files, whether they are appearing in court, advising a business, closing a transaction, managing client expectations, or supervising others.
The program will also explore how professionalism and lawyer well-being are connected, as clearer boundaries, better systems, candid conversations, and healthier professional cultures can reduce isolation, prevent avoidable ethical risk, and support a more sustainable profession.
Expect a practical, energetic learning environment that will sharpen your ethical instincts, build confidence across practice areas, and help you reflect on the kind of lawyer—and legal profession—you want to help create.
Law Society of BC CPD Hours: 6 hours (this course will contain a minimum of 6 hours pertaining to professional responsibility and ethics, client care and relations, and/or practice management)
