Prerequisite: Fundamentals of Mediation, Family Law Mediation Level 1 or equivalent foundation-level mediation course from another provider
Who should attend: Mediators wanting to experiment with process, build their skills, and learn new approaches
Learning level: Intermediate/Advanced
This four-day online course builds on the foundation provided by the Fundamentals of Mediation course (or an equivalent) by introducing more skills and providing lots of practice opportunities. The course features advanced processes and techniques, as well as practical mediation challenges and practice issues.
Presented through a process-oriented lens, this course explores pre-mediation meetings, facilitating joint sessions, and adapting the process to meet party needs. Participants will be encouraged to reflect on party self-determination and power dynamics (systemic and personal).
Participants will engage in more than 10 hours of roleplay practice coached by experienced mediators with varied practice backgrounds. Participants will be introduced to co-mediation skills, and all participants will have the chance to co-mediate two scenarios. The course will examine some of the challenges and opportunities of conducting mediations online.
Mediate BC Roster mediators will receive 20% off the full regular course registration fee. Please contact Customer Service to register.
Please note: This course is offered remotely through a Zoom platform. A device equipped with a camera and microphone will be required to participate.
Law Society of BC CPD Hours: 24 hours, including 6 hours toward LSBC Family Law ADR qualification or CPD (a minimum of 3 hours will involve aspects of professional responsibility and ethics, client care and relations, and/or practice management)
