About the Course Chairs
Danielle DiPardo is a partner in the Litigation Group at Cassels. Danielle has a broad corporate and commercial litigation practice and offers experience in franchise litigation, class actions, securities litigation, and product liability.
Danielle is called to the bar in BC, Ontario, and Saskatchewan and has appeared before the BC Supreme Court, the BC Court of Appeal, the BC Securities Commission, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Ontario Human Rights Tribunal, the Yukon Supreme Court, and the Court of King's Bench Saskatchewan. Danielle also frequently uses alternative dispute resolution strategies, appearing on behalf of clients in arbitration proceedings and in mediation.
Danielle has been recognized in Best Lawyers Canada as Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch (Corporate and Commercial Litigation).
Outside of the office, Danielle doesn't train for marathons like her co-chair Layne, but does spend a significant amount of her time going for walks with her golden retriever, Sabrina.
Layne Hellrung is a litigator in Victoria, BC. His practice focuses on business, real estate, construction, and estate cases. Before moving to Victoria in 2025, he practiced for 12 years in Vancouver.
Layne co-chaired the first edition of this course in 2017. The inspiration for this course arose from his own experiences with parties (and counsel) disregarding the Rules. He is very pleased to be co-chairing this 2nd edition of Litigation Misconduct with Danielle DiPardo, his former colleague.
Since Layne's call to the bar, he has devoted hundreds of hours to pro bono work, namely with Access Pro Bono, and has presented at numerous CLEs.
Outside of the office, Layne trains for marathons by chasing around his two little kids.
