Who should attend: This course is designed for legal professionals—including lawyers, legal operations teams, and firm leaders—who are interested in understanding and leveraging AI to enhance their practice. No prior technical knowledge is required.

Part 1—November 21: Foundations and Tools
This session introduces participants to AI's role in the legal field, its basics, trends, and ethical considerations, concluding with an overview of practical legal tech tools.
Topics include:
- the state of AI in the legal profession: trends, leaders, and innovations
- fundamentals of AI: machine learning, NLP, and how AI works in legal environments
- AI risks and responsibilities: compliance, ethics, and best practices
- exploration of AI legal tech tools: research, e-discovery, practice/document management, CRM
Part 2—November 28: Mindset, Strategy, and Implementation
This session equips participants with strategies to align AI with practice goals and provides hands-on demos for AI adoption frameworks.
Topics include:
- cultivating a digital and experimental mindset
- AI readiness and alignment with your practice
- AI use cases demo for productivity (Microsoft Copilot)
- AI implementation strategies: aligning people, process, and technology
- building a business case and strategic plan for AI integration
After taking this course, you will be able to:
- understand the current landscape and future trends of AI in the legal industry
- identify and evaluate AI tools relevant to legal practice
- recognize the ethical, legal, and compliance considerations of AI adoption
- cultivate a digital-first mindset and assess your firm's AI readiness
- develop a strategic plan and business case for implementing AI in your legal practice
Law Society of BC CPD Hours: 6 hours (a minimum of 1 hour pertaining to professional responsibility and ethics, client care and relations, and/or practice management)
