Who should attend: Lawyers and in-house counsel who do not specialize in employment law but advise clients on employment-related issues from time to time. This course may also be of interest to lawyers who are new to employment law, law firm administrators, human resource professionals, and anyone who is involved in the dismissal process of an employee.

Learning level: Fundamental

Led by experienced lawyers who specialize exclusively in employment law, this half-day course will explore best practices to avoid disputes when ending employment relationships and how to effectively manage disputes when they arise.

At this course, you will learn about:

  • when and how to terminate an employee with or without cause
  • what constitutes cause
  • what constitutes reasonable notice
  • claims that terminated employees can make against an employer
  • available defences and aggravating and mitigating factors

Join us to gain valuable insights into navigating these complex situations effectively.

Law Society of BC CPD Hours: 3 hours (this course will contain a minimum of 1 hours pertaining to professional responsibility and ethics, client care and relations, and/or practice management)
