Who should attend: All those who have an interest in human rights issues, including human resource professionals and employment, labour, and human rights lawyers

Learning level: Intermediate/Advanced

Human rights law goes beyond the scope of employment law practice and is constantly evolving. Over the course of two days, you will explore a comprehensive range of human rights law topics presented by diverse speakers.

This conference will include the ever-popular annual case law update and judicial review update. You will walk away with a substantive look at current trends and practical issues to meet the increasingly complex and sophisticated matters arising in this area.

At this conference, you will:

  • hear from the Chair of the BC Human Rights Tribunal on recent developments at the tribunal
  • get up to date on the BC Human Rights Commissioners interventions and inquiries
  • learn about the latest human rights cases before the BC HR Tribunal, BC Supreme Court, BC Court of Appeal, and Supreme Court of Canada
  • learn best practices for working with experts, dealing with administrative delay, and trauma-informed and intracultural competency in mediations
  • learn about recent developments in s. 27(1)(f) dismissals and the provision of services under s. 8

Join us on Day 1, Day 2, or both days for a discussion of these important issues.

Law Society of BC CPD Hours: 12 hours (this course will contain a minimum of 2 hours pertaining to professional responsibility and ethics, client care and relations, and/or practice management)
