Who should attend: Litigation lawyers in all practice areas: civil, criminal, family, and commercial who face opposing witnesses who will testify through an interpreter

Lawyers in BC represent clients in a multicultural and multilingual environment. Litigation lawyers, across practice areas, often must conduct examinations for discovery and trials where witnesses give evidence through an interpreter.

In this two-hour session, panelists Scott Turner, David Taylor, and Nerissa Yan will provide their insight into the legal, ethical, and practical challenges and considerations on how to effectively collect and test evidence through the use of interpreters.

This course has ethics and professionalism components.

Law Society of BC CPD Hours: 2 hours (this course will contain a minimum of .5 hours pertaining to professional responsibility and ethics, client care and relations, and/or practice management). Please note: The CPD hours of the rebroadcast will either meet or exceed the CPD hours of the original live webinar course.

About the Course Chair
Nerissa Yan is one of the few Mandarin-speaking civil/commercial litigation lawyers in Vancouver. She is sought after by domestic and international clients, as well as her colleagues in the legal profession.

Nerissa represents both corporate and individual clients in civil and commercial litigation matters. Her litigation practice is wide-ranging with a focus on complex disputes, including contractual disputes, shareholders' disputes, creditor/debtor remedies, real estate and strata disputes, construction disputes, commercial leases, fraud, professional negligence, estate litigation, foreclosure proceedings, and defamation.

Nerissa regularly conducts and defends clients in examinations for discovery and trials through interpreters. She looks forward to chairing this CLEBC session to share and exchange practice tips with her colleagues on this topic.
