With the expanded jurisdiction of the Civil Resolution Tribunal, the personal injury landscape in BC continues to evolve, but this does not mean that personal injury practice is about to disappear anytime soon. Cases in the pipeline will continue to be litigated and questions of law and practice will continue to be important. If you are a personal injury litigator—this conference is still your must-attend event of the year.

As with past conferences, the centrepiece will be the comprehensive Murray Jamieson case law and legislation update. Rounding out this year's program are sessions on class actions and mass torts, mediation/arbitration, PI and the CRT, sports and torts, loss of capacity, direct examination of the plaintiff, and eAdvocacy: Best Practices with Remote Witnesses.

About the Course Chairs
Krista Simon is a Partner at Hammerco Lawyers LLP. Her practice focuses on personal injury, sexual assault and abuse claims, and disputes related to Estates. She earned her LLB from Dalhousie Law School and LLM from Osgoode Hall Law School. Krista represents clients at all levels of court in BC. She is also skilled in mediation, having received her training at Harvard University and Pepperdine University.

Krista has been recognized for her achievements through numerous awards including recognition in Best Lawyers in Canada (2021-24) for Personal Injury Litigation and Insurance Law. She is a Past President of the Trial Lawyers Association of BC and a current board and committee member. She has been a CBA Women Lawyer's Forum mentor. She is currently a member of the Supreme Court Civil and Family Rules Committee and is an Adjudicator on the LSBC Tribunal. Krista is a frequent speaker at professional conferences and community seminars.

Jim Vilvang is associate counsel at Richards Buell Sutton LLP. He was called to the BC bar in 1974 and the Yukon bar in 1994. He was awarded Queens Counsel status in 1996. In 2003, he was honoured with the TLABC Bar Award and in 2011 he was the recipient of the Goyer Award for exceptional contribution to the Legal Profession in BC.

He was President of the BC Branch of the CBA in 1988-89 and President of TLABC in 1993-94. He served as a Bencher from 2001 to 2009 and is now a Life Bencher.

His preferred areas of practice were personal injury claims and civil litigation, but now he primarily works as a mediator and arbitrator.
