About the Course Chairs
Mary MacGregor, KC has worked with closely held businesses throughout her career. Her practice is primarily corporate–commercial law, with a focus on clients in the resource and service sectors of the Interior—ranching, timber, mining, tourism, and the businesses that serve those sectors. Her family background is in agriculture and the beef cattle industry.
Mary graduated from UBC in 1970 with a Bachelor of Science (Agriculture) degree, and from the same institution in 1976 with a Bachelor of Laws degree. She was called to the BC bar in 1977 and received her Queen's Counsel designation in December 2014.
She has practiced law in Merritt and Kamloops since 1977 and started Mary MacGregor Law Corporation in 1995.
Her professional activities have included acting as a governor of the Law Foundation of BC, membership in the CBA (BC Branch) Judicial Advisory Committee, the Thompson Rivers University Law School Advisory Committee, the BC Institute of Agrologists Conduct and Discipline Committee, and the occasional CLEBC presentation.
Her government appointments have included the BC Farm Debt Review Board, the Fraser Basin Management Board, the BC Fiscal Review Panel, and the BC Lottery Corporation Board of Directors.
Her volunteer work has included the Vancouver Foundation Environmental Advisory Committee, the Canadian Cattlemen's Association, and the BC Cattlemen's Association.
Brett Squair is a lawyer at Davidson Lawyers LLP. He was born and raised in the Okanagan. Brett completed a Bachelor of Arts degree from Simon Fraser University and obtained his Juris Doctor from Thompson Rivers University.
After returning to his home town, Brett joined Davidson Lawyers LLP. He was called to the BC bar in 2017 and practices in the areas of business law, real estate, estate planning, and estate administration and probate.
Brett is a member of Kalamalka Rotary, a member of the BC Cattleman's Association, a director of the North Okanagan Livestock Association ("NOLA"), a committee member of the BC Cattlemen's Association's Environmental Stewardship Committee, and a director of the SKY Volleyball Club. Brett was previously the Vice President of the Vernon and District Immigrant Services Society and a member of Junior Chambers International.
When Brett is not working, he is either spending time with his family, playing volleyball, or working on his family's ranch and woodlot. Brett's hobbies include hiking, archery, camping, and volleyball.
