Planning for health care decision-making—both personal and by substitutes—is of increasing concern to our clients and the public. This half-day course will help you become familiar with the legal framework of health care decision-making, including Medical Assistance in Dying ("MAiD"), the forms, and best drafting practices. You will hear from lawyers and physicians about the day-to-day workings of the health care system and its challenges, including additional challenges experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic. You will leave this course more comfortable in assisting your clients through this challenging and deeply personal area of law.
After taking this program, you will:
- be aware of MAiD legislation and changes
- be up to date on recent cases
- gain knowledge on issues of health care consent and drafting advance care plans
