Who should attend: Lawyers who know that fluff is for pillows, not legal documents—those who want to learn to distill their writing to its essence and become more persuasive in the process
Learning level: Fundamental/Intermediate
Stuart Teicher, Esq. used to think that semi-colons were stupid, editing was a waste, and letters were irrelevant. But oh, how he was wrong! These details of a legal writing are actually critical elements in being persuasive. Join the "CLE Performer," as he takes a deeper dive into the details of persuasive writing that will make your writing go from good to great!
Hour 1: Semi-colons are stupid and other legal writing myths: Stuart explains how small elements like punctuation and grammar are critical for lawyers to take their writing to the next level…and he does so in a (surprisingly?) engaging way.
Hour 2: Building the structure and fine tuning the finish: Every generation of lawyers is taught a different legal writing acronym that teaches the proper structure for a legal writing. Now learn the acronym to end all acronyms—CIREAC. Also, Stuart explains how the finishing touches are the most important touches and he reveals his process for editing your documents.
Hour 3: Killer correspondence! One of the sharpest tools in the lawyer's arsenal is a surprisingly common item. The letter. Whether it's a demand letter, a note sent during negotiations, or a client communication, your success could be dependent on a piece of correspondence. In this hour, Stuart explains how to write them with the proper persuasive edge.
After taking this course you will be able to:
- use plain English and proper grammar to create documents that are clear, concise, and direct
- understand the proper structure of a persuasive writing
- ensure success with a structured editing process
Here's what past registrants had to say:
