Learning level: Fundamental/Intermediate

Do you lead, advise, or volunteer at a charity or not-for-profit? Join us to fully understand your role and responsibilities. At this conference, lawyers with dedicated charities and not-for-profit practices will provide you with up-to-date information on current issues affecting your organization. You will leave better equipped to deal with the governance, tax, and the many other legal issues that arise in the daily operation of a charity or not-for-profit organization.

At this course you will:

  • hear from The Honourable Ratna Omidvar on the report by the Special Senate Committee on the Charitable Sector and Bill S-222, the Effective and Accountable Charities Act
  • discuss hot topics such as decisions from the CRT on societies issues, the CRA online system for charitable registration, and the SCC decision on Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church of Canada St. Mary Cathedral v. Aga, 2021 SCC 22
  • find out about obstacles and opportunities for Indigenous charitable organizations
  • learn best practices for virtual meetings and working with restricted funds, such as purpose restrictions, endowments, and Donor Advised Funds

Special pricing: For lawyers, we will be offering our long-standing Bursary Program. Members of not-for-profit organizations (lawyer or non-lawyer) may be eligible for a 50% discount off the regular price through CLEBC—contact Customer Service or call us at 604.893.2121 for more info.
