About the Faculty
Wes McMillan loves the law almost as much as he loves the Winnipeg Jets. To his wife's dismay, he records and watches Supreme Court of Canada hearings for fun. It is rare that a legal issue doesn't pique Wes' interest.
Wes is an experienced commercial litigator having made appearances before administrative tribunals, trial courts, the Court of Appeal, and multiple appearances at the Supreme Court of Canada.
The primary focus of Wes' litigation practice is real estate. He has represented developers, home owners, buyers, sellers, real estate agents, and strata corporations in all manner of real estate disputes. He has experience advising and litigating in respect of complex land assemblies, collapsing deals, easements, restrictive covenants and statutory building schemes, to name a few.
Wes has developed a reputation in the real estate industry as the go-to lawyer for real estate agents and their clients. In fact, almost all of Wes' work comes from referrals from lawyers at other law firms, real estate professionals, and past clients.
Shauna Towriss is a partner in the Real Estate & Development Group at Cassels. In her practice, Shauna helps clients grow and achieve their business goals by securing the space where they conduct business and doing the legal work related to obtaining the funding that allows them to do so. She offers extensive experience in assisting clients in nearly all facets of commercial real estate including acquisitions, dispositions and financing or re-financing of office, retail, apartment and hotel properties on behalf of a range of owners, from individuals and syndications to institutional investors.
