About the Course Chairs
Peter Larlee, an immigration lawyer at Larlee Rosenberg, Vancouver, has over 30 years of experience advising clients on Canadian citizenship and immigration issues and opportunities. He has experience in all facets of immigration and citizenship law, with an emphasis on sponsorship appeals before the Immigration Appeal Division and appeals of visa officer decisions to the Federal Court of Canada. In addition, he has extensive experience with the Canadian business categories having advised clients under various federal and provincial business programs since 1986.
Throughout his career, Peter has been an active member of the CBA, holding positions on the executive of the BC Section, representing the CBA as a witness before the Canadian Parliamentary Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration, and representing the CBA on advisory committees with the Immigration Appeal Division, Immigration and Refugee Board. In 2003, he was awarded the Government of Canada “Head of Public Service Award” for his work on the Immigration Appeal Division, Alternative Dispute Resolution Implementation Team.
Zool Suleman received his law LLB from Dalhousie University (1989) and clerked at the Federal Court of Appeal (1990 – 1991). After articling with the national law firm of McCarthy Tétrault, he established his own law firm, Suleman & Company in 1992 where his practice is restricted to Canadian immigration, refugee, and citizenship law matters.
Zool has been a chair, co-chair, and member of the City of Vancouver Mayor's Working Group on Immigration under three separate mayors (2005 – present). He has also been a director of the Metropolis British Columbia, Centre of Excellence for Research on Immigration and Diversity. His research interests include the intersection of culture, migration, and race which he pursues via active projects:(www.rungh.org). A frequent media commentator and conference speaker on migration issues, he authored the City of Vancouver's publication Vancouver Dialogues: First Nations, Urban Aboriginal and Immigrant Communities (2012). Zool also writes for the National Observer (www.nationalobserver.com) and Vancouver Observer (www.vancouverobserver.com), and is a regular commentator on Roundhouse Radio 98.3 FM.
