Who should attend: Lawyers practicing family law, directors' counsel, parents’ counsel, and all others involved in child protection work, including social workers, members of First Nations organizations, front line advocates, and law students.

Do you know how best to represent your client in child protection proceedings? At this course, experienced parents’ and directors’ counsel will walk with you through the process, from investigation through adoption, from the initial reports to the presentation hearing, the protection hearing, and what can happen next. Come learn best practices from experienced counsel who understand this challenging area of law and can show you how to better serve your clients.

At this course you will learn about...

  • how to represent your client in child protection proceedings
  • tools and tips for avoiding litigation
  • how to deal with challenging situations with parents' counsel, directors' counsel, social workers, and clients

Law Society of BC CPD Hours: 6.5 hours (a minimum of 1 hour will involve aspects of professional responsibility and ethics, client care and relations, and/or practice management).
