Who should attend: Lawyers advising and representing strata owners, strata corporations, strata councils and strata developers, as well as those representing third parties such as lenders and tenants.

The problems at Paradise Park continue. In April of 2013, THE OWNERS, STRATA PLAN BCS000 – PARADISE PARK held their AGM. Now council is being attacked and a Special General Meeting has been called to deal with a number of these issues. A council meeting (the attendees will be observers) and a Special General Meeting (an interactive meeting where the attendees are the owners) have been called. As they work through the Mock Council Meeting and SGM agendas, the expert faculty will lead you through the practical complexities of strata property law. You will be provided with copies of hardship application materials, ¾ vote resolutions, and voting cards. This update will prepare you for the many surprises you may encounter when dealing with strata corporations, occupants, and property managers. This is your essential update!

About the Luncheon Featured Speaker

Shannon Salter is the Chair of the Civil Resolution Tribunal. She earned her BA and LLB (UBC, 2001/2005) and her LLM (U of T, 2011). Shannon clerked with the BC Supreme Court, practiced litigation at a large Vancouver law firm for several years, and has served as a vice chair of the Workers' Compensation Appeal Tribunal. She is also a commissioner of the Financial Institutions Commission, Vice-President of the BC Council of Administrative Tribunals, and a past board member of the College of Registered Nurses of BC. Shannon teaches administrative law at the UBC Faculty of Law as an adjunct professor, and has been actively involved in providing pro bono legal advice and representation throughout her career.

About the Course Chairs
Adrienne M. Murray has practiced exclusively in the area of strata law since starting her law practice in 2002. Prior to practicing law, she worked for the provincial government for fourteen years, the last eight as the Deputy Superintendent of Real Estate. While with the government, Adrienne worked with the drafters of the Strata Property Act.

Adrienne has been actively involved in the development and presentation of seminars to the legal community, real estate industry, strata management industry, and strata owners. She co-chaired the Strata Property Update courses for the Continuing Legal Education Society in 2006, 2011, and 2013, and assisted with the development and updating of two courses related to the Strata Property Act offered by the British Columbia Real Estate Association. Adrienne prepared and presented courses to strata managers on behalf of the Real Estate Council of BC and a Legal Update course for PAMA. She is a regular presenter for the Condominium Homeowners’ Association and is a director of the Association. Adrienne is a member of the Strata Management Advisory Group to the Real Estate Council of BC.

Patrick Williams was called to the bar in May, 1975. After spending four years in the Okanagan as a trial lawyer, he returned to Vancouver and began his practice in construction, insurance, and strata property law. Pat is a partner at Clark Wilson LLP, where he has practiced for more than 31 years. He calls himself a dispute resolver and is trained as both an arbitrator and mediator. He has been the president of the British Columbia International Commercial Arbitration Centre since June 2003. He is also the Chair of the BC Law Institute Strata Property Law (Phase Two) Project Committee. Pat has been an editorial board member of the CLEBC publication BC Strata Property Practice Manual for many years, and a repeat author of three chapters of that book. Over the years Pat has contributed to a number of CLEBC courses and will be co-chairing the March 2015 course Strata Property Update.
