About the Course Chairs
Hunter's practice focuses on the resolution of corporate and commercial disputes. He regularly acts as counsel in the prosecution and defence of shareholder, corporate and investment disputes, as well as oppression remedy claims brought under corporate legislation.
He advises clients in investment broker and advisor liability, commercial contractual claims, commercial leasing disputes, creditors' remedies, fraud recovery, and banking litigation.
Hunter has successfully represented clients in the Provincial Court of BC, the Supreme Court of BC, the Court of Appeal for BC, the BC Securities Commission, and in private commercial arbitration.
Hunter is a member of BLG's Diversity & Inclusion Committee and is also actively involved in the firm's student recruitment, summer student, and articling student programs.
Matthew Swanson is a leading litigation and dispute resolution lawyer with extensive experience acting for companies and individuals in critical business and personal disputes. He has been recognized as a top litigation lawyer aged 40 or younger (Benchmark Litigation), a Leading Lawyer to Watch - Corporate-Commercial Litigation (Lexpert), and an Acritas Star.
Matthew has appeared as lead counsel in a broad range of complex cases at all levels of court in BC and in the Saskatchewan Court of Queen's Bench. He has also argued cases in Arbitrations under the BCICAC rules (now VanIAC), ICDR rules, and CCDC rules. He regularly handles matters involving collapsing and collapsed transactions, contract terminations, and disputes relating to the breakdown of business relationships.
Matthew is a frequent author and speaker. He has written and spoken extensively on litigation and dispute resolution issues, including contract law, real estate law, creditors remedies, construction law, and franchise law.
