About the Course Instructors
Roger Moss is Supervising Mediation Counsel for Conflict Resolution Service, a groundbreaking homelessness prevention program in San Francisco.
Following graduation from UC Berkeley and Hastings College of the Law, Roger worked in the commercial real estate industry in negotiation, strategic planning, and executive roles. He led real estate operations for iconic retailers in Manhattan and Los Angeles, participated in historic redevelopments in San Francisco, Honolulu, and Charleston, and managed one of the largest mixed-use retail, entertainment, and commercial developments in the States.
An expert in managing tenant–landlord relations, Roger practices relationship-driven collaborative negotiation. He thrives in connecting marvelous people with one another. Roger's professional experience is now centered on preventing homelessness, increasing access to justice, and creating a national platform to transform conflict resolution in housing and commercial real estate.

Sharon Sutherland is a mediator and lawyer. In her current role as Director of Strategic Innovation at Mediate BC, Sharon has led the launch of the Quarantine Conflict Resolution Service to respond to needs for low bono mediation services for conflicts arising from COVID-19. As Vice President of CoRe Conflict Resolution Society, Sharon co-facilitates weekly Community of Practice meetings for conflict resolution professionals seeking to improve their ability to offer services online.
Sharon has a long history with distance mediation and ODR beginning in the early 2000s when she worked with CLEBC and other legal education partners on a Research Consortium in Online Legal Learning. Sharon led a collaborative project in Online Business Negotiation. She has since taught online negotiation, mediation, and arbitration in several legal education institutions, including as a full-time faculty member at UBC (2003-14) and as an instructor at both CLEBC and Mediate BC.
Sharon was one of the first Project Managers of the BC Court Mediation Program (1998-2003). From 2006-10, Sharon worked with Mediate BC to develop a province-wide Child Protection Mediation Practicum aimed at increasing the number of child protection mediators in under-serviced parts of BC. From 2014-16, Sharon worked as a Knowledge Engineer in the development of the Civil Resolution Tribunal, focusing on both Strata and Small Claims streams.
Sharon is a partner in collaborative game development with PignPotato Games and Vice President of CoRe Conflict Resolution Society. Sharon was honoured with the 2011 Susanna Jani Prize for Excellence in Mediation for her contributions to the development of mediation in the province.
