Learning level: All levels

Deals are increasingly—and in light of the pandemic—predominantly negotiated where no one meets in person. Sometimes the parties do not even speak on the phone more than a couple of times and all communications are done by email.

While this has provided much convenience and efficiency, sometimes the digital nature of deals and virtual closings can lead to misunderstandings that can cause difficulties for you and your clients. There are many things that can go sideways very quickly.

In this course, you will learn about:

  • email best practices and protocols
  • electronic signatures (tools available and risk management)
  • document management best practices (including managing signature pages, use of closing folders, releasing documents from escrow or closing folders, and dealing with original documents)
  • opinions if you use virtual closing and electronic signatures
  • receiving and dealing with closing funds to avoid fraud and minimize risk
  • managing client expectations and instructions
  • managing the deal post-closing

Join us to learn best practices for ensuring your electronic deal and virtual closing goes smoothly!

Law Society of BC CPD Hours: 2 hours (a minimum of 2 hours will involve professional responsibility and ethics, client care and relations, and/or practice management). Please note: The CPD hours of the rebroadcast will either meet or exceed the CPD hours of the original live webinar course.
