Who should attend: Lawyers who do not specialize in employment law, but advise clients on employment related issues from time to time, in-house counsel, and human resources professionals.

Learning level: Fundamental

We'll explore best practices to avoid disputes when ending employment relationships and how to effectively manage disputes when they arise.

At this course you will learn:

  • when and how to terminate an employee with or without cause
  • what constitutes cause
  • what constitutes reasonable notice
  • about claims that terminated employees can make against an employer
  • of available defences and aggravating and mitigating factors

Law Society of BC CPD Hours: 3 (including 0.5 hour involving aspects of professional responsibility and ethics, client care, and relations, and/or practice management)
