The BC Health Care Costs Recovery Act and Regulations has been in force since April, 2009. This statute of general application allows the government to recover a wide range of health care costs associated with personal injuries that result from the negligence or wrongdoing of a third party. The Act imposes duties on injured parties and insurers to cooperate with the government and provide information. This comprehensive half-day program will review the nature and purpose of the Act, its scope of operation, the mechanics of notification, settlement issues, and professional ethical considerations. The course will quickly bring practitioners up to speed on the most important case law and will offer valuable practice pointers, from pre-issue to post-settlement and all points in-between. This course is for all personal injury practitioners who seek a comprehensive review of the HCCRA and its implications for day-to-day practice of BC, out-of-province, and international claims.

You will learn about...
  • the nature and purpose of the Act
  • the mechanics of the operation of the Act and the duties of counsel
  • out of province and inter-provincial implications of the Act
  • ethics and professionalism issues and the Act
