Who should attend: Lawyers specializing in business immigration law or those who wish to develop a practice in this area. The course may also be of interest to corporate/commercial lawyers, employment lawyers, in-house counsel, and human resource professionals.

Learning level: All levels

This year represents the start of a new paradigm, with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada ("IRCC") establishing annual temporary residence targets for the first time. These targets set the stage on a macro level for the numerous program and guideline changes that impact temporary foreign workers directly and indirectly.

This will be a practical, hands-on course on navigating current immigration realities at the ports of entry, in the portals, and more.

Learn from experienced practitioners and get tips and tricks to help you in your daily practice. Gain a deeper understanding of recent transformations to federal and provincial immigration rules as they relate to foreign workers and applicants for permanent residence, with an eye on current and anticipated political and legal changes that affect our practice area.

After taking this program, you will:

  • have up-to-date information on portals
  • be aware of international mobility work permits
  • gain knowledge on the port of entry work permit applications
  • have up-to-date information regarding accompanying family of foreign workers
  • be aware of how to respond to refusals

Law Society of BC CPD Hours: 6 hours (this course will contain a minimum of 1 hour pertaining to professional responsibility and ethics, client care and relations, and/or practice management)
