About the Course Chairs
Scott Dawson is a senior litigator with extensive experience resolving business disputes. His cases cover a wide variety of commercial issues including those related to supply contracts, insurance/reinsurance disputes, international and domestic agency agreements, directors' duties, shareholder obligations, and real estate matters. For decades, Scott has advised regional, national and international news media organizations on disputes ranging from court openness to intellectual property issues and defamation claims.

Judy Rost is a senior litigator practicing in civil litigation with an emphasis on business and franchise disputes. Judy is the group leader of the firm's Business Disputes and Franchise Practices and a member of the Intellectual Property + Technology Practice Group. She has acted for plaintiffs and defendants in all types of business disputes including shareholder, partnership, real estate, and franchise matters.

She has been recognized by Best Lawyers in both Commercial Litigation and Franchise Law, LEXPERT as a leading Canadian lawyer in franchising law, and has been ranked by Who's Who Legal in both its International Who's Who of Franchise Lawyers and in Who's Who Legal Canada. Judy has written for many publications including the Franchise Law Journal on international arbitrations, a chapter in the ABA publication entitled Covenants Against Competition in Franchise Agreements (Third Edition) in relation to BC, and co-authored the chapter on Trademark and Other Intellectual Property issues in the ABA text Fundamentals of Franchising - Canada (Second Edition). In 2017, Judy launched the bcbusinessdisputes.ca website.

In addition to CLEBC, she has presented and published for the Canadian Franchise Association, the CBA, the Ontario Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the International Franchise, and International Bar Associations. Judy has successfully built her practice by being a skilled litigator, responsive to her clients' needs, and by finding creative solutions to resolve their disputes.
