Conveyancing Deskbook

DescriptionMore Detail

This book is essential for: legal support staff, junior lawyers, and experienced conveyancers.

Current to: September 1, 2010

A practical step-by-step guide to the transfer of land in British Columbia
Winner of the
ACLEA Award for Outstanding Achievement in Publications, the Conveyancing Deskbook is designed to aid the conveyancer and legal assistant by providing a practical step-by-step guide to the transfer of land in British Columbia. The material is organized using a chronological and transactional approach. The first chapter is an overview of BC conveyancing, followed by chapters taking the reader through the transaction.

Conveyancers are encouraged to use the checklist at the beginning of each chapter to guide them through the transaction. Each checklist identifies issues to be considered, information to be obtained, and searches and investigations to be undertaken. And by reviewing the checklist along with the instructions, the conveyancer can readily identify all documents required for the particular transaction.

Each checklist contains many items that require further explanation and discussion; this material is contained in the "Commentary" section of the chapters and is cross-referenced in the checklists. All forms and precedents mentioned are included in the publication (also on CD-ROM), along with instructions for their completion.

Subscriptions include online access with search capability and links to the full text of case law and legislation, checklists and forms and precedents on CD-ROM, and updates each fall.

Highlights of the 2010 update

  • the forms and precedents have been moved to a separately tabbed area immediately following the chapters to improve access in both versions (print and electronic) of the Deskbook
  • many precedents have been updated for the HST (including the GST/HST certificates) and other statutory or practice developments; also, many of the prescribed forms have been revised in the last year
  • all chapters have been updated to reflect Rule, legislative, and practice changes
  • all features of the book are now current to September 1, 2010
