The art and science of conflict resolution

Wednesday, October 16, 2019
9:00 am – 4:30 pm
KPMG Ignition, 777 Dunsmuir Street, Vancouver
or attend via webinar

Who should attend: Lawyers and other professionals whose practice includes negotiation, mediation, med-arb, and other forms of collaborative decision-making

Learning level: All levels

The field of conflict resolution is multi-faceted and rapidly evolving: new ideas push up against tried and true practices as the entire justice system experiences pressures to transform to meet the needs of providing meaningful access to justice. Yet the sheer breadth of the field and the speed of change means that it is not always possible to bring together the new research from wide-ranging disciplines with the experiential learning from diverse areas of legal practice.

This one-day conference will offer an opportunity for a multi-disciplinary, multi-practice exchange of ideas and reflections about all aspects of the developing world of conflict resolution.

Participants will have the opportunity to learn about:

  • applications of scientific research from such fields as psychology, biology, and mathematics to conflict resolution practice
  • new ideas in conflict resolution emerging from studies in the arts and humanities
  • practical tips arising from work in new models of conflict resolution and variations in existing approaches across practice areas

Law Society of BC CPD Hours: 7 hours (a minimum of 1 hour pertaining to professional responsibility and ethics, client care and relations, and/or practice management)

This course will meet the minimum 6 hours of Dispute Resolution CPD required by the Law Society of BC for family dispute resolution professionals.

CLEBC would like to acknowledge KPMG for their support in this program
