Thursday, March 7, 2019
9:00 am – 4:00 pm via webinar
Who should attend: This course is primarily for business lawyers and litigators but will be relevant to any lawyer whose clients are affected by internet technology.
Learning level: All levels
We live in a digitally interconnected world, in which over 1 billion photos and videos are uploaded daily to the Internet on platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, and WhatsApp. Over the past 30 years, the Internet has become an essential tool and whirlwind development has pushed the Internet's boundaries into new incredible uses.
Join us to learn about the legal issues and risks arising from this rapid digital transformation, such as cyberbullying, dissemination of misinformation, sale of contraband, election meddling, and additional misconduct occurring on the anonymous "dark web" such as trade in child pornography.
At this course, you will explore the ways in which traditional laws are becoming less effective in dealing with Internet-related legal issues. You will increase your understanding of the types of legal challenges that lawyers, courts, and societies are now facing in a global Internet world where various interests compete and the answers are not obvious.
After taking this course, you will be able to:
- understand the issues and competing interests in the emerging Internet age
- identify areas of risk for both individuals and businesses and the best practices for managing these risks
- recognize the impact of cross-border issues for a resource that knows no borders
- assess the technological issues which will shape litigation in the future
- formulate a plan of action to deal with digital issues that your clients are most likely to face
Join us and get up to light speed on the digital issues shaping law practice today!
