Wondering about the status and impact of the much-discussed BC Foreign Buyers Tax and Speculation Tax? Join us for a focused, half-day course to learn about the key issues arising from the BC government’s two tax measures intended to slow the housing market in certain urban areas. You will get up to date on the existing Foreign Buyers Tax and receive information so you can prepare for the upcoming Speculation Tax. You will leave the course with a better understanding of how these taxes will affect your transactions, clients, and practice.
After taking this course, you will be able to:
• understand where and how the Foreign Buyers Tax and Speculation Tax apply
• identify who/what is a “foreign entity” under the Foreign Buyers Tax
• recognize what makes the Foreign Buyers Tax anti-avoidance rule different from all other anti-avoidance rules
• explain what is known so far about the Speculation Tax, including issues around imposing a tax without legislation and the effective date of the tax
