About the Course Chairs
Tamara Hunter — DLA Piper (Canada) LLP, Vancouver
Tamara Hunter is a member of the litigation group at DLA Piper (Canada) LLP in Vancouver. She practises in the areas of freedom of information and privacy law, administrative law and professional regulation law. She acts for a variety of professional regulatory bodies on matters involving registration, professional disciplinary proceedings and related litigation.
She has conducted numerous hearings before professional disciplinary tribunals and has represented professional regulatory bodies before the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for BC, the BC Human Rights Tribunal, the Supreme Court of BC and the BC Court of Appeal.
Tamara has represented both private sector and public sector organizations before the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for BC, the Yukon Information and Privacy Commissioner and in related litigation. Tamara has also been named by the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for BC as a qualified lawyer approved to act on its behalf in matters relating to privacy protection law, administrative law and access to information law.
Born in New Westminster, BC, Tamara obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from Simon Fraser University in 1988. She received the Chancellor’s Entrance Scholarship and majored in both economics and business administration.
Tamara then attended UBC where she received her Law Degree in 1990.
Sara A. Levine, QC — Vancouver
Sara is a trusted advisor and strategic counsel to clients in the public and private sectors, with a focus on health sector entities, professional associations and regulatory bodies. Areas of focus include governance, risk management, health law and policy, freedom of information and privacy. She is the past Co-Chair of the CBABC privacy and freedom of information subsection; has served as a mentor for many years in the Women Lawyers Forum mentoring program; and in the community, she currently serves on the Transit Police Service Board of Directors and on the Vancouver Jewish Federation Security Committee. Sara holds a Bachelor of Arts from UBC and a Juris Doctorate from Queen’s University. She was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 2014.

Michael P. McEvoy — Information and Privacy Commissioner for BC, Victoria
Michael McEvoy was appointed Information and Privacy Commissioner for BC on March 5, 2018. He previously held the position of Deputy Commissioner to the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner.
As Deputy Commissioner, Mr. McEvoy played a key senior leadership role in the enforcement of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) and the Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA). He was responsible for leading and managing systemic investigations of significant public interest issues, and the development of policy papers and guidance for organizations and public bodies. Mr. McEvoy led BC’s efforts to coordinate actions with regulatory authorities throughout the Asia Pacific region.
Mr. McEvoy obtained a Juris Doctorate from the University of Manitoba in 1985 and a Bachelor of Arts in 1980 from the University of Winnipeg. He has been a member of LSBC since 1986.
Mr. McEvoy was a public school trustee for 12 years, including two terms as President of the BC School Trustees’ Association and one term as President of the Canadian School Boards’ Association. He has also served on numerous campaign committees of the Greater Victoria United Way, chairing its 2009 campaign.
Mr. McEvoy is married with two grown daughters. He prides himself as a charter member and elite player with the Victoria Grey Leafs’ old-timer hockey team
