Who should attend: Lawyers practicing in the area of professional regulation, including those who act for professionals before their governing body, and those acting on behalf of professional regulatory bodies. The course will also be of interest to registrars; members of registration, complaint, hearing, and discipline committees; investigation officers; and staff members of self-governing bodies.
Learning level: Intermediate/Advanced
In matters regarding self-governing professions, the practices, procedures, and rules are unique and frequently changing. Protecting the public interest and maintaining the profession's integrity and credibility have to be balanced with the individual's interest in his or her livelihood, reputation, and ability to practice effectively. Learn about the latest developments and the most critical and complex issues facing self-regulating bodies.
After taking this course, you will:
- know the most current practices and procedures in this area
- be up-to-date on concepts such as regulating professional businesses, labour mobility, and unauthorized practice and contempt
- be aware of the most recent cases and trends
