Learn the corporate procedures, filings, and issues relating to the new BC Societies Act. In each area, discover the practical information you need to gather, the issues you need to consider, and the documents you need to prepare. Learn how to perform the key tasks under this new legislation taught by experienced paralegals.

At this course you will learn:

• what a member-funded society is and the advantages and disadvantages to becoming designated as one
• what is allowed in the new constitution and what happens to existing provisions after transition
• what happens to bylaws on transition — do you change them, use the existing ones, or adopt the new model bylaws
• how to perform a standard transition under the new Societies Act
• how to perform a transition with additional changes under the new Societies Act (i.e., bylaws, member-funded designation, etc.)

About the Course Chairs

 Christine Hall has specialized in corporate law for more than 30 years as a paralegal, 19 of those years at Owen Bird Law Corporation as the supervisor of their Corporate Services Department. She supervises seven staff members and is involved in their training as well as the training of junior lawyers and articling students. She enjoys providing lawyers with paralegal services ranging from simple to complex corporate transactions including drafting special rights or restrictions and documentation for tax-related reorganizations. Christine has presented at other CLE's for corporate legal support staff and at other venues on basic corporate procedures and electronic filings with the Registrar of Companies. A love of the outdoors is experienced through hikes and walking with her husband and dog.

 Ayako Oki is a paralegal in the Business Group at Fasken Martineau DuMoulin LLP. She is responsible for the preparation of a broad range of corporate/commercial documentation from incorporations and share transactions to a wide variety of corporate reorganizations. Ayako has comprehensive experience with statutes in both the provincial and federal level.
