(Original course: Friday, February 26, 2016)

Who should attend: Lawyers who are developing a practice in the area of wills, estates, and trust litigation; the course may also be of interest to general practitioners.

Learning level: Fundamental

This course will provide you with the fundamental building blocks and essential information to litigate a wills and estates case and to build a practice in the area. We will examine substantive, procedural, and ethical topics that will prepare you to successfully conduct your estate litigation practice.

After taking this course you will...

  • gain tools to assist you in conducting an estate litigation practice
  • understand the concepts of committeeships, curing deficiencies, solicitor-client privilege, and passing the accounts
  • know about probate actions and the new civil rules and wills variation issues

Here's what past attendees had to say:

All the topics were relevant, well presented and accompanied by good materials.

This course is a very good primer for an estate lawyer.

As a junior associate, I found each topic to be valuable.

I think that this course was one of the best, if not the best, I've taken over decades. For me it was the right mixture of law and practice. I expect to get a lot of use out of the materials as well. Even though the course was marketed as basic, and I have 35 years under my belt, I feel as though I've had a very good day.

Law Society of BC CPD Hours: 6 hours (a minimum of 1 hour will involve aspects of professional responsibility and ethics, client care and relations, and/or practice management).
