Who should attend: Corporate/commercial lawyers and business litigators at all levels of experience and from all Canadian jurisdictions; this course is also of interest to legal staff who deal with financial statements and family law practitioners.

Every corporate/commercial lawyer and business litigator must be able to understand and use financial statements to serve business clients more effectively. At this workshop you will learn about basic accounting concepts and what financial statements reveal about a company including its performance and viability. You will also learn what financial statements do not tell you. Whether you are new to this area or need a refresher, you can't afford to miss this popular course!

  • understand the principles involved in creating a set of financial statements for a business
  • read a set of financial statements and assess the financial position and operating performance of a company
  • identify some of the warning signs of potential fraud
  • understand the different types of public accountant reports and the reliance that can be placed on each
