Wednesday September 10, 2014
Times: Morning: 9:00 am – 12:00 pm; Afternoon: 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm
Pan Pacific Hotel, 999 Canada Place, Vancouver

Who should attend: Full day: all paralegals, including family law paralegals, who wish to become designated; pm only: all lawyers considering designating their paralegals and/or getting more information about how the designation works.

Learning level: Intermediate/Advanced

This half-day course will give you the valuable information you need to excel in your expanded role as a Designated Paralegal. Hear from our panel of experts about issues including pitfalls to watch out for when giving legal advice, handling difficult client interviews, and subtle mistakes made that can cause difficulties for your supervising lawyer. Those not yet designated will get tips from experienced designated paralegals about how to pitch the idea to your supervising lawyer.

Whether you work for a litigator or solicitor, by attending this course you will be an asset to your firm, supervising lawyer, and the clients you serve. Lawyers who attend will learn about their role and accountability when allowing their paralegal to become designated.

This half-day workshop will give you an opportunity to not only hear from senior counsel and existing designated paralegals, but also gain hands-on experience practicing advocacy skills in a courtroom-like setting. If you are a current designated family law paralegal or are aspiring to become one soon, the chance to try out your skills in a safe environment could prove invaluable as you further your career. Hear from a colleague as she shares the highlights and lessons learned from her courtroom experience, get tips for preparing for court, and actually SEE what works and what doesn't work. Due to the interactive nature of this workshop, it will not be offered online as a Live Webinar.

You may also register separately for the morning (The Designated Paralegal) or the afternoon (The Designated Family Law Paralegal Workshop). See pricing below.
